Assignment:
Use composition and layout (rather than words or pictures) to communicate the abstract ideas of fast and slow with an audience. Use letterforms to express the idea of fast and slow using only black, lowercase letters a-z (no uppercase or punctuation) with Times New Roman as the font in a white 9" x 9" background. Spelling anything with the letterforms is prohibited.
Approach:
The process of coming up with these visual compositions began by sketching
thumbnails of ideas in a sketchbook. This was followed by roughs of the
composition sketch that was found to be most affective in communitating the speed.
Gestalt design principles were applied to the composition designs. Compositions
were then rendered in Adobe Illustrator.
